Am I still getting some good health benefits of green tea even though I only drink it once a day?

I have been doing some research and keep coming across people that say 2-3 cups is the only way to get the health benefits. Is this true? I don’t really have the time or like it enough to drink it that many times a day. I just have it at breakfast and thats about it.

Tea is one of those foods whose benefits must be weighed against its risks. Whether you call them tannins, polyphenols, or antioxidants, the chemicals in tea can do harm as well as good. Drink as much as you want to drink, enjoy the taste, and don’t worry about it.

Pre-existing Condition Question Please?

Does having a condition for which you are currently receiving treatment such as a non cancerous enlarged prostate usually disqualify you from getting insurance or just in a waiting period for the preexisting condition?
AARP tells me that if I am on any medications (I am currently on Avodart and Flomaz) that I might as well not apply,.
What are my chances of getting coverage?

It depends on the insurance company. Many companies will accept you unless there is pending surgery. However, some will accept with a rider, which means they won’t cover anything that has to do or is a result of the enlarged prostate. The rider can be anywhere from 1 year to permanent. The could also accept you and will cover the prostate after a waiting period for an additional premium. It also depends on your particular situation. If you are also overweight some companies may decline while others may take you.

Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can do a “prescreen” with each insurance company to find out what they may do in your situation. There is no extra charge using an agent.

benign feeling prostate?

after visiting a urologist i have been told i have a benign feeling prostate with 15-20 mls volume, and have to have more tests done including renal ultrasound,cystoscopy and kub x-ray and psa blood test at first it was thought i had kidnet stones but this has been ruled out.but there is microscopic blood in the urine does anyone know whats going on?

Do you have to have your prostate checked when you do a physical for the D.O.T. in the state of Florida?

My husband is concerned that he will have his prostate checked (via anal) when he takes a physical for his company. It is in Florida by the department of transportation.
Also, do you know what age they start doing this? Thanks

i don’t think a prostate exam is part of a DOT physical. However, the old faithful, turn your head and cough is.

As for the prostate exam, he probably doesn’t need one until he’s 40 or so, unless he is having some type of problem such as problems urinating, erectile dysfunction, bowel problems, etc. His doctor should be able to calm his fears.

Now, tell him if he needs the exam to just get it. It really is no big deal. It is a little uncomfortable, but not just horrible or anything. It’s actually not as bad as most folks think.

Remind him to keep a sense of humor about it. When I had my first exam at age 31 for a problem, when it was done, i asked my doctor if he didn’t at least owe me dinner and a movie or something. He broke completely up as he walked out of the room. It ain’t nothing but part of being a man. If he needs the exam, get it. Don’t let him put his health at risk because of fear or anxiety over a test that literally millions of men have every year.

A man’s prostate starts to enlarge after the age of 40. The medical term is BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia. As the gland grows, because it surrounds the urethra (the tube urine passes through to exit the body), it puts pressure on the urethra making it hard for the man to urinate.

Symptoms are:
weak urine stream especially when starting and stopping urine flow
difficulty starting urination
dribbling of urine, especially after urinating
a feeling that your bladder didn’t empty
urine leakage
frequent urination
a strong and sudden desire to urinate, especially at night
blood in urine

Doctors like to be conservative when it comes to treatment. They will just monitor the situation because often the symptoms will improve without treatment. For moderate symptoms, medication is started asap. For severe symptoms, surgery is recommended.

Why is prostate cancer, along with other men’s health issues, ignored?

Okay, I know I sort of asked this question before, but it seems as if prostate cancer awareness flew under the radar last month, as I heard September is prostate cancer awareness month, while breast cancer awareness is getting the full treatment. Nothing against breast cancer awareness, or women’s health awareness, but what about men’s health getting equal treatment. Do we want men to die?

of course not. Just people don’t recognise others’ suffering until it affects them directly. Guys also don’t want to admit to their physical ailments as much as women do… if they did then men would be rallying for support as much as women do. It’s a shyness problem, I guess. Men don’t like to appear weak or in need of support.
Of course that’s a generalisation, though. There are indeed male activists looking to improve the awareness of men’s diseases.

Best doctor and best treatment for prostate cancer.?

I am diagnosed Prostate Cancer by high PSA.PSA is 5 and I am 58 years old. I am worried a lot.
How to find the best doctor who will give me best possible cure will know all experimental options available?
I called University Hospital and they gave me appointment on 27th sept,07 which is one month later and this is not right. I feel I should have biopsy as soon as possible and if tumor is still localized ,then it should be removed as soon as possible.
There are so many doctors and so many treatments. Every one is saying that he is the best and have best results. I am confused and my life and future is at stake. Can somebody guide me how to pick the best doctor and best procedure and most importantly what you will do if you are in my place?
Also what kind of diet ,exercises and non medical measures will help. I have a wife and five kids and they all are worrying equally. Sorry for trouble and thanks for the possible help.

what hormones does the prostate gland produce?

i cant find the answer to this question anywhere and ive searched many books, i need the names of the actual hormones, i know it produces them, its a gland! Any info is greatly appreciated!

The prostate gland is part of both the reproductive and urinary systems, called the urogenital system. Normally, the prostate is about an inch and a half across, often described as having the shape and size of a walnut. The prostate gland is made up of both muscular tissue and thousands of tiny sponge-like gland units. Gland units are groups of cells that produce prostatic fluid. The prostate gland has several sections, called lobes. The lobes are contained within a tough muscular covering, called the prostate capsule.

The prostate’s primary function is to help transport sperm cells. It does this in two ways. First, the gland produces a milky white fluid that mixes with sperm and seminal vesicle fluid to form semen. This fluid nourishes the sperm cells and normally does not contain any harmful substances. Ten to 15 percent of the fluid in semen comes from the prostate. In addition, during orgasm the smooth muscle of the prostate gland squeezes and releases rhythmically several times to pump semen into the urethra. The prostate also directs semen and urine in the right direction – through the urethra and out of the body. Finally, the prostate gland secretes fluid that lubricates the lining of the urethra, and produces prostate specific antigen (or PSA). The prostate is not considered a vital organ; and, like the appendix, you can live without it.
